I took our Forester for an oil change at NTB on Monday. In addition to the oil change, they told me that our brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced on both axles and that the back ones would fail inspection if it were done now. This seemed unlikely since the car had been driven only 4,000 miles since passing its last inspection with flying colors. I took it to Beyer yesterday and they said the front brake pads and rotors were perfectly fine, but that the back ones needed to be replaced and the brake fluid needed to be changed. Neither NTB nor Beyer showed me the car to demonstrate why the car needed the work they advised. I then took the car to Honest-1. They removed all four tires and told me nothing needed to be done, that my pad, rotors, and brake fluid were all fine. They took me to the back and showed me the car before putting the tires back on. NTB is next to my gym, so I can do my workout while my cars get oil changes. But in the future I will ignore the convenience of going to NTB and go to Honest-1 Auto Care instead.
